Simply D.I.Y. Hair

This posts is to keep track of DIY recipes/projects I liked to do.

To about 1 pint of boiled and cooled water, add 1 tablespoon of honey and mix it up.
Honey acts as a humectant, just like glycerin, and can be used as a substitute for glycerin if you do not have access to glycerin

  • 1 part Nettle
  • 1 part Horsetail
  • 1 part Rosemary
Bring some water to boil, pour in the herbs, reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes.  Take the pot off the hob and leave the herbs in the water for 6-24 hours. Strain and use.

Ingredients
  • 5 oz bentonite clay powderdraws out toxins, dirt, product build-up, and improves combability, defines curls.
  • 2 oz unrefined cocoa butterhydrating and high in vitamin E with emollient (smoothing) properties.
  • 2 oz extra virgin olive oil; penetrates the strands increasing strength and elasticity.
  • 1 oz pure cocoa powder; antioxidants protect against free radicals.
  • 2 tbs cassia obovata (sometimes called neutral henna)conditions scalp and thickens the strands.

substitute mango butter and no jojoba

Hair Spritz/Leave In

I can't seem to find a protein free Leave In that works in my hair.  So I have to make my own.
Here's the first try.

I used the bottle caps so these aren't exact measurments.

1 tbs Avocado Oil
1 tsp TTO
1 tbs Castor oil
1 tbs Grape Sead
1 oz CURLS Lavish Curls (trying to get rid of it)
2 tbs Conditioner (desert essence, don't know if it'll work because of the coconut oil)
4 oz water

Results:
I just spritz it on tonight and had a little irritation on some spots on my scalp from the TTO but that's from scratching those areas before applying the leave in.  I'm always telling myself not to scratch my scalp, just rub/massage or do that pat-pat-pat thing that women with weaves.  The slight tingling sensation went away after a few minutes.

Curls are still wet but feels moisturized but the big test is what my hair will feel/look like when dry.

We'll see how it is tomorrow.

Wash n Fail

My hair felt dry so yesterday, so I decided to do a wng.

Pre-poo: Vatika Oil + Castor + EVOO
Cowash:  Desert Essence Coconut conditioner
Leave In: Left in some conditioner
Sealed:  Started to seal'n'twist with QB Soft Gel but it felt horrible in my hair so I used the pre-poo mix

Next morning results were DRY DRY DRY hair.
I untwisted my hair with QB Burdock Butter and that left my hair moisturized all day.

What I think I did wrong?
I didn't really wash my hair, the D.E. is a great moisturizing conditioner but it's doesn't really clean my hair without stripping.  I think it just added to buildup, especially with the pre-poo.  So no moisture got to my hair strands.  Finger detangling took way longer then it usually does.

Next time I'll cowash with Giovanni TTTT and do a quick Hot oil Treatment.  And if I have to use the Desert Essence, then I'll do a ACV rinse to try to get rid of any build up and help moisture penetration.

Wash Day *New Regimen*

Goal: Wake up the next morning with moisturized hair

Products used/Routine:

Pre Poo
Vatika Coconut Oil (with Amla, Henna, Neem, and Lemon oils) + Evoo
*Note: Kept on for 1hr, but produced no heat.  Next time use heat cap

CoWash
Desert Essence Coconut Conditioner
*Note: Moisturizing & Good slip.  Pre-poo helped.  Rinse out and was left with moist curls

Deep Conditioner
Shea Moisture Purification Masque
*Note: Strip hair of moisture.  Hair felt dry.  But need this for my scalp so I'll try using it as a pre-poo and do the original pre-poo mix as a DC.

Leave In
Qhemet Biologics Burdock Root Butter Cream
*Note: Website said it can be used as leave in.  But it's more like a sealant.  Next time, I'll use a liquid leave-in with good slip, then add this butter.  Hair still felt dry & buttery.

Styler
Qhemet Biologics Honeybush Tea Soft Gel
*Note:  Very good slip.  Was able to detangle my hair with it.  Does not prevent shrinkage so I put medium sized twists in my hair.  Took away whiteness of butter.  A little goes a long way.

Spritz exposed scalp with Shea Moisture African Black Soap Scalp Elixir
